Everyone needs a capable note-taking app to keep things organized. Evernote is the oldest note-taking software out there. The majority uses the software as file-cabinet to keep notes, documents, web clippings, and more. As for Apple users, Apple Notes is the default option for them. With each iteration of iOS and macOS, Apple is adding more features to the Notes app. If you are getting confused about these two apps, then you have come to the right place.
Apple Notes is focusing on simplicity while Evernote weights on organization and features. Each software has its pros and cons. You might find one that suits your needs and requirements.
In this post, we are going to compare Evernote to the Apple Notes on Mac. We will also have a word on mobile apps. The comparison will cover Cross-platform availability, User Interface, Note organization, Note editor, features, pricing, and more. Let’s get started.
Cross-Platform Availability
In this area, you will always find Apple apps at a disadvantage. Apple Notes is only available on iOS, iPad OS, and macOS. Evernote is accessible everywhere, including iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and iPad.
User Interface
Both the apps follow the standard design elements for a notes app. Starting with Apple Notes, it offers all the notebook folders on the left pane, and notes on the right side.
Only one element bothers me in Apple Notes. The formatting bar remains at the top. There is no way to hide it.
Evernote looks and feels better to me. The software uses the dark-themed sidebar with notebooks, tags, trash, and other options. Evernote also lets you choose from multiple note-viewing options such as Card view, Snipped view, Side List view, and more. Unlike Apple Notes, the formatting bar only comes to play when you try to edit the note.

Notes organization is essential in note-taking apps. It might make or break the decision for you. After a couple of months, you are going to fill-up the software with hundreds of notes. So, it’s essential to find the relevant note quickly and efficiently. And here is where the notes organization comes in.
Starting with Apple Notes, the software allows you to create multiple notebooks. You can create sub-notebooks inside it. Unfortunately, there is no way to tag a note and find it using the added tag. To do app mac ios.
Evernote shines when it comes to notes organization. You can create notebooks and even add multiple tags to note for a better organizational structure. Adding tags is one of the best features of Evernote. I hope Apple Notes and OneNote take inspiration from it.
Note Editor
Apple Notes is offering limited options when it comes to editing a note. You can choose from Title, Headings, Subheading, Monospaced, Bullet list, and Numbered list. Users can also integrate photos and documents inside a note.
I like the table add-on. In certain notes, tables make it easy to keep things organized. Sadly, there is no way to highlight words in Apple Notes. I hope Apple adds a native highlighter in future updates.
Evernote feels like a full-fledged document editor with dozens of editing options. You can choose from the various font style, sizes, and even colors. If you are someone who likes formatting notes with different fonts styles, colors, and highlighter, then you can go ahead with Evernote.
I like the direct integration of Google Drive in Evernote. You can add files from Google Drive to Evernote with one step. I hope Apple offers a similar add-on with the iCloud or OneDrive platform.

Sharing and Extension
With Apple Notes, you can invite others to make changes to the Notes and folders. Users can also use the default Share menu to send notes via Mail, Airdrop, Messages, and even attach the note to the Reminders app.
Evernote lets you directly share a file through email. You can also invite others to join the notebook and make changes.
Evernote offers a Chrome extension to clip content from the web to Evernote. You can also add web bookmarks using the Evernote extension. I hope Apple follows suit and develop Notes extension for Safari and Chrome browser.
Storage and Price
Apple Notes uses the iCloud platform to store user data. The company offers 5GB of iCloud storage for free. After that, you have to pay for the additional space on iCloud. The pricing starts at $1 for 50GB.
Evernote relies on its data centers to store the notes and user data. The free version is limited to two devices. The premium plan is priced at $70.

Evernote advertises itself as the best note-taking app. It goes far beyond just taking notes, however. Evernote lets users organize their notes into searchable notebooks, clip and send webpages, connect with collaborators and colleagues, as well as edit and format text to a level that rivals many mainstream word processors. This huge suite of features takes Evernote out of the realm of a note-taking app and turns it into a formidable workflow and collaboration tool.
A notepad app with focus issues
Evernote expands the typical notepad app with plenty of additional features, but more doesn’t always mean better.
Evernote is, in a single word, comprehensive. At its heart, Evernote is a note-taking app. You can have the app open on your desktop, and quickly access it to jot down text or notes. You can then save your notes into different “notebooks', organized in whatever fashion you desire. This is an area where Evernote shines: its organizational features are comprehensive, allowing you to search your documents and other files by keywords and categories. For business owners and office workers, this is a major plus. Evernote uses cloud-based storage, which allows you to quickly share and sync files between multiple contacts and devices.

Signal mac app store. Evernote offers a large library of sleek templates to suit your needs, from itemized lists to invoices and beyond. It's an exhaustive selection that makes it easy to quickly convey information without having to worry about taking the extra time to format a document in a way that makes sense. The features don't stop there: Evernote offers an instant messenger client, a web clipper that lets you save and send cached webpages, presentation tools, and document scanning capabilities. It's a comprehensive suite that rivals like Bear can't compete with.
The app has much to offer.. arguably, too much. No matter what you use Evernote for, there will doubtless be features that you won't be using, which leads to the app feeling cluttered and clunky. The interface can be overwhelming for new users and feels crowded, which means you'll probably take a while to get the hang of using Evernote. Some of the extra features feel gimmicky and unnecessary, like a drawing tool that lets you translate sketches and doodles to your notepad. It's for this reason that Evernote feels like an app that doesn't know what it wants to be. It's not quite a notepad, not quite a workflow tool, and not quite an organizational tool. It's easy to see the difference when using other, sleeker note-taking apps like Bear or Simply Note. They may lack Evernote's features, but the overall experience feels much more directed and user-friendly.
Users should also be aware that there are a few privacy concerns to consider before installing the app. Evernote forces users to create an email-linked account that allows the app to access data to join. You won't be able to simply open the app and start typing. Evernote also has a controversial privacy policy that allows their team to read user's private documents at random in order to improve certain app features.
Though Evernote previously attempted to apply this policy to all users, they have since backtracked after public outcry and made the policy opt-in only. This is indicative of a generally lax attitude in regards to privacy on the part of Evernote; notes aren't encrypted and are stored on Evernote's cloud servers, meaning your data is vulnerable to third party access.
If you're using Evernote to store sensitive data, you may want to think twice before using the app to store your material.

Is there a better alternative?
Bear does exactly what Evernote doesn't: it pares down additional features to provide a simple, streamlined note-taking app. The interface is easy to use and understand, search functions are quick, and it does away with much of the additional features that bog down Evernote. Simply Note does the same, paring down features even further and offering a no-frills, minimalist text editing app that's perfect for jotting down and organizing quick notes.
Evernote Mac Os Apps
Our take
Evernote is a mixed bag. It isn’t a simple notepad app by any means; you won’t really be able to pop open the app to jot down a few reminders. Evernote sits somewhere between a full-fledged word processor and a notepad, and does lend itself well to those who like to keep their notes well organized.
Should you download it?
You’re probably safe to take a pass on Evernote. The app’s organizational features and templates are major pluses, but the bloated features make it hard to use.
